Positioned in the center of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, Spear Vineyards lies directly between the Northern (Hwy 246) and Southern (Santa Ynez River) corridors.
Spear Vineyards is made up of two distinct vineyards.
The “Northern” vineyard fronts the Santa Rita Valley corridor and the “Southern” vineyard sits at the top of the Santa Rita Hills above the Santa Ynez River.
Spear Vineyards is influenced by both of the two main geographical features of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA; the east to west orientation of both the Santa Rita Valley to the north and the Santa Ynez River to the south.
Each of the twenty vineyard blocks was developed to showcase the distinct soil type, aspect, elevation and climatic influence of the estate.
Each of these blocks is comprised of differing soil types and distinct microclimates.
Planted in 2014, these blocks are planted in Pinot Noir (13 acres), Chardonnay (9 acres), Syrah (3 acres), Viognier (2.5 acres), Grenache (2.25 acres) and Gruner Veltliner (0.5 acres).
Committed to farming organically. Organic farming feeds the soil, enriching the diversity and vitality of microorganisms and thereby improving the health of the vines and complexity of flavor in the grapes. We forego the use of inorganic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides.
Spear Vineyards is committed to producing estate grown wines of the highest caliber and distinction, each expressing the unique terroir of the property.
