SANTA RITA HILLS
Inspired by the unique geography and strong ocean influence of our area, a small handful of like minded colleagues defined and petitioned what would become the Santa Rita Hills in 1997. Led by pioneer, Richard Sanford, who first planted in 1970, this group carefully considered wind trajectory, fog patterns, topography and soil profiles to identify a concise and cohesive sub appellation within the larger Santa Ynez Valley. Several years after submittal, the AVA was granted. Over the past four decades, the area of planted vineyard land has grown to over 3,500 acres with a presence and recognition all across the globe.
